“Since taking office, we’ve achieved so much together. We closed Tent City, ending a shameful chapter in our history, reduced lawsuits to stop the unacceptable waste of taxpayer dollars, and worked to restore trust with the community we serve.

As your Sheriff, I’m committed to the modernization of our law enforcement practices while moving the county forward.

I’ve enhanced our anti-sex trafficking efforts, cracked down on wanted fugitives, prioritized school safety, and established new partnerships to improve our Animal Safe Haven center. Still, there’s plenty of work to be done.

In 2019, we:

Hosted a first of its kind school safety forum with experts from around the country to keep our teachers and students safe

Partnered with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide housing vouchers to youth aging out of the foster system to prevent homelessness

Hired 350 talented detention officers and 100 new deputies

Apprehended dangerous drug smugglers and prevented the distribution of tens of thousands of extremely lethal Fentanyl pills

Brought MCSO to 97% compliance with federal court orders in an effort to restore accountability and public trust and save taxpayer dollars

Launched an initiative to mitigate the spread of Hepatitis A by vaccinating all persons booked in MCSO jail facilities

Seized and stopped the manufacturing of thousands of illegal marijuana vape cartridges, which have been linked to deaths of young people around the country

Worked to privately fund and build a new state of the art facility for our Maricopa Animal Safe Haven (MASH) Unit

And we’ve accomplished all this while coming under budget for the third year in a row.

I look forward to continuing our work together to keep our community safe and make Maricopa County the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family.” –  Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone
