Tina Smith for Minnesota Senate
“My name is Tina Smith, and I stepped up to serve Minnesotans in the Senate earlier this year. I’m facing a special election in November to complete this Senate term — which means I’m learning quickly how to be the best senator that I can be, while also assembling a star campaign team so I can continue to do this work.
I’m thinking about the same issues that Minnesotans are thinking about: What are we going to do about the fact that healthcare costs are going up so astronomically? Are our kids going to be able to go to a good school, and how will they pay for college? That’s where I’m focused.
But at the same time, we can’t ignore the facts: Donald Trump only lost Minnesota by one and a half points. And despite his terrible first year in office, the Star Tribune‘s “Minnesota Poll” earlier this year showed the state trending more Republican than the rest of the country. The Minnesota Republican chair even said: “My whole pitch is that Democrats say there’s a blue wave, but there’s no blue wave in Minnesota. What we have in Minnesota is a red tsunami.” There’s no doubt about it: We’ve got a real fight on our hands.
This is the time to prove that we’re building a massive people-powered campaign that’s up for the task ahead. With so much at stake, the country will be watching our race closely. In fact, CNN said Minnesota is going to be “ground zero” in the 2018 midterm elections. The pressure’s on.
This fight isn’t going to be easy: Already, right-wing groups are lining up dark money to attack me for my work securing progressive policies for the state of Minnesota as lieutenant governor. And they want a progressive like me out of office so they can flip Minnesota red and keep control of the Senate. We need to prove we’re able to fight back.
I’ve been working hard for Minnesotans in the Senate. In my first few months in office, I’ve gotten to work on the big issues, pushing back hard against Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda. But while I’m fighting for Minnesotans in D.C., I need your help making sure we can win back home.” Tina Smith
