“There’s nowhere quite like the Hudson Valley in the summer. I love hiking the trails through the woods with my family, or spending an afternoon in the park with our new dog Maple. But when we get home, one thing’s on the top of my list: checking my boys for ticks.
Before I became a parent, it hardly occurred to me that an afternoon outside could put my kids at risk of a debilitating disease. But I’ve heard from so many families for whom a day in the woods turned into a nightmare. So many of us in New York know someone who’s been affected by Lyme or other tick-borne illnesses – even my dad has had Lyme disease. But too often, people overlook the real impact that this disease has on so many people.
That’s why last year, we passed a bill requiring the Department of Health and Human Services to do more to fight Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. But seven months later, the Trump administration is dragging its feet – and they even want to cut funding for critical research!”
